“The Acolyte”: Can This Star Wars Prequel Find Its Footing?

With its concentration on two twins, retaliation, and... zzzzz, the newest Disney+ release in the canon would quickly wear out even the most seasoned Jedi master.

In the first three Star Wars films, JEDI ARE VERY FEW. Both Yoda and Obi-Wan, who are hermits in remote parts of the galaxy running from their own mistakes, pass away after imparting some Force knowledge to Luke Skywalker.

Although Luke himself never quite finishes his training, he comes close enough in later movies to be regarded as a Jedi master.

Thus, in those early films, the Jedi are more of an intriguing symbol and a mystery: How could such a powerful and smart group of people have suddenly vanished from the face of the planet?

Unfortunately, the Jedi lost most of their mystique from Obi-Wan and Yoda in the early films when that secret was solved.

It turns out that the reason the Jedi were exterminated was due to their softness, conceit, and excessive adherence to unhelpful regulations.

For Pete's sake, the Empire would never have happened if Mace Windu had simply told young Anakin that he could go kiss Padme.

Though overall, the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons performed a little better than the Jedi

they are still essentially George Lucas creations that get less exciting the more they accomplish, much like Boba Fett.
